Kenneth E. Morrell, retired manager of subcontracting for General Electric, died July 16, 2014, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Mr. Morrell was born in Wayland, Massachusetts to Kenneth R. Morrell and Margaret Bent Morrell. He was married for 54 years to Barbara Myers, who died in 1993. He is survived by a son, Kenneth E. Morrell 3rd, of Natick, Massachusetts and a daughter, Ellen Morrell, of Bluffton, Indiana, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers, Bruce E. Morrell, Col. USAF, Ret. (Norma) of Colorado Spring, Colorado, Stuart B. Morrell (Marilyn) of Topsfield, Massachusetts, and John B. Morrell (Michelle) of Juneau, Alaska.

He earned a Bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from Bowdoin College where he was on the football team, Phi Beta Kappa honorary society and Zeta Psi fraternity. He had a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts.

Mr. Morrell was a Methodist and a member of the Masons since 1945. He served in the Army in WWII. He worked for the Bath Iron Works in Maine, Bethlehem Steel of Fore Rivers, Massachusetts, the Boston Navy Yard, Draper Corporation and Dennison’s prior to joining General Electric. He worked at a number of company locations, including major periods in Schenectady, New York, Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and Huntsville, Alabama on the Polaris missile, Apollo moon shot, and Poseidon and Nuclear Propulsion programs. He was also a member of the GE’s Elfun Society.

He had lived in Colorado Springs since 1984. Notable passions of his life were the Boston Red Socks and Bruins, responding in writing to anybody regarding his conflicting opinions in collectable satirical wit and RVing.

There will be no funeral service. It was his wish that any memorial contributions be made to The Shriner’s Hospital for Children, P.O. Box 30714, Tampa, FL 33630-3714.
