Konsten Edward Kovitz

“Ed” Kovitz, retired United States Air Force Chief Master Sergeant, died on December 26, 2015 in Colorado Springs at the age of 96.

Mr. Kovitz was born December 18, 1919 in Goshen, New York to Stanley and Mary M. (Galus) Kovitz. He was married on October 8, 1942 to Verda O. Barnhart of Walden, New York, who is deceased. Ed and Verda were married for 66 years.

He is survived by daughter, Karen Grauberger of Colorado Springs, and sons K. Edward (wife, Tema) and Robert M. all of Peyton; his sister Lillian M. Eberhardt (husband, Alfred C.) of Mahopac, New York; and several grandsons, granddaughters, nieces and nephews.

CMSgt Kovitz proudly served over 30 years in the United States Air Force before retiring on February 1, 1973. He served in World War II. The Korean and Viet Nam wars and the Cold War. He was awarded the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with three combat campaign stars (Naples-Foggia; Rhineland and Rome-Arno) and other service medals.

Following retirement from military service, he was the first Golf Professional at the Silver Spruce Golf Course, Peterson Air Force Base. He later served as Assistant Professional to Dow Finsterwald, Director of Golf at the Broadmoor.

Ed was a loving and caring father, grandfather and friend. It would be difficult to guess how many golf lessons that he gave over the years, all over the world. He will be missed by many.
