Lars E. Starbuck (12/28/1963-11/21/2014) Maj. USAFR (retired), born in Verdun, France to Mary Ann and Lawrence Starbuck, died suddenly on November 21, 2014 while working in Turkey.
His father was in the army, so the family lived in various places in the United States and Europe. Lars graduated from Bethel High School, Tacoma, Washington. Lars attended the University of Colorado on a full ROTC Scholarship; he received a commission as Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. Lars married Marylan Nevin with whom he had a daughter, Carolyn. He was engaged to Christina Truman of Spanaway, Washington.
Lars loved to spend time with his daughter Carolyn. They hiked in Yellowstone Park and the Grand Tetons. He adored his family and dear friends. He was a computer guy and loved sci-fi, especially “Red Dwarf”, “Star Trek”, and “Dr. Who”. He was a runner and entered marathons with enthusiasm and helped to raise money for worthy causes. Lars also had an appreciation for good beer. He had a big heart, was nonjudgmental, devoted, and accepting of others; he saw the potential in people and was not afraid of challenges.
Lars was predeceased by his mother, Mary Ann. Lars is survived by his daughter Carolyn; his father, Larry Starbuck; his sister, Lisa Starbuck; and his nephew, Jonah Starbuck.
The Funeral Service for Lars will take place at 2pm on Friday, December 5, 2014 at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd. A reception will follow services at the Olympian Plaza Reception & Event Center, 975 S. Union Blvd.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association.
