Laurence O. Newport
Laurence O. Newport, age 82, a resident of Colorado Springs for 42 years, passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at his home in Colorado Springs. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Laurence O’Neil Newport was born on June 30, 1930 in Chico, California to the late David Melvyn and Vivian (Brooks) Newport. He married Jean Marie Turnbull on December 26, 1953 in London, England. He retired from the United States Air Force after serving honorably in communications (SAC).
Laurence was a member of The Retired Enlisted Association and was a Free Mason. He loved fishing, hunting, golfing and bowling.
He will be remembered for being a very generous man. He never hesitated to help or support someone in need and never required recognition.
Laurence is survived by his wife: Jean; his children: Christy Newport, Gary (Sandy) Newport, Teresa Cobb, Laurie Jean (Tony) White, and Justin Newport; his grandchildren: Nicholas, Miles, Sean O., Sean, Cameron, Heather-Jean, and Lauren; and great-grandchildren: Emmett and Rozabella-Jean. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren: Jenny and Sara.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 15, 2013 at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel. A reception will follow at The Retired Enlisted Association, 834 Emory Circle. Private inurnment will be held at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, Columbarium of Hope.
