Lawrence Stephen Galka
August 11, 1933 – July 22, 2016
Lawrence Stephen Galka was born to eternal life on July 22, 2016, at Brookdale Skyline in Colorado Springs, Colorado, after a long battle with cancer. Larry was born to Frank and Stella Galka on August 11, 1933, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He moved from Chicago, Illinois, to Colorado Springs in 1977 where he loved being a Public Defender for three years and then private practice until retirement.
Larry held engineering and law degrees. He was experienced in corporate, patent, and criminal law.
An avid sportsman, Larry competed in baseball, basketball, boxing, wrestling, cross country skiing, and cycling, for which he broke the 3,000 meter record at the Velodrome in the 55 age category and won a gold and three silver medals at the Masters National Championship in Portland, Oregon. He enjoyed music and played the guitar and harmonica. He cared for family and friends with dedication and love.
He is survived by his wife, Janice; and two children, Lawrence (Michele), Renee (James) Farrell; four grandchildren; a brother and four sisters.
Mass will be held 11:30 am, Monday, August 1, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 9 El Pomar Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80906. A light lunch will be served afterward in the church’s Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Pikes Peak Hospice or Rocky Mountain Cancer Center.
