Leo Ray Goin, age 89, passed away on 8/5/24. He was a native of Colorado Springs, although he did spend some time growing up in Glenwood Springs and Burlington, CO. Leo was born to Everett “Bud” Caleb Goin and Ruth Elnor (Robertson) Goin in Colorado Springs. Leo married Connie Walter in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on 10/15/1955.

Leo was fond of sports and played basketball and football at Colorado Springs High School, from which he graduated in 1953. After graduating from high school, he relocated to Pueblo, where he attended junior college and also worked. When he returned from Pueblo, he joined the apprenticeship program with Plumbers & Pipefitters Local #58 to later become a Master Plumber and lifetime member. Leo continued his love of sports throughout his life. He played basketball and fastpitch softball with the city leagues in Colorado Springs until he was 60. Leo played fastpitch softball, mainly as the pitcher, against teams from other cities and even sponsored his own team for a couple of years. After retiring, he continued to participate in sports by joining bowling leagues. In addition, Lee enjoyed creating beautiful stained-glass art and also enjoyed gardening, especially roses. He loved watching the local wildlife, including the many deer that visited his yard and the hummingbirds that enjoyed the flowers and nectar he put out for them. He also watched many eagle cams regularly on the computer.

He is survived by his loving wife, Connie, of 68 years; his children, Pam Finley (Jesse) and Mark Goin; his sister, Kay Butcher (Tony) and nephews Mike Butcher (Deana), Nick Butcher and Kevin Goin; sister-in-law Kathy Goin: his two granddaughters, Delishia Finley (Steven) and Shalaya Carbajal; eight great-grandchildren, Skyler, Sierria, Jesse, Taje’, Irene, Kaori, Cristian and Nayeli; and one great-great-granddaughter Zora. He was preceded in death by his parents Everett and Ruth Goin, stepmother Hazel Goin; as well as brothers Rex Goin, Richard L and wife Dee Goin, stepsiblings June Neagle and husband Bill and Sonny Baker. Leo will be greatly missed by his many great nephews and nieces, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Interment will be at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, 1730 E Fountain Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80910.

This Obituary Has 2 Condolences

  1. Condolences to my grandmother Connie, I can’t imagine the loss you feel, I love you Moo. I will always love and remember Bats and all of our winter/ summer vacations with my parents to Colorado and all the fun we always had, Bats was quite a jokester and loved practical clean jokes. The one thing that always pops in my head was when Bats called on the phone early on st patty’s day one year and helped me make green pancakes for my parents. Hahahaha they came out under cooked and disgusting but it was so fun and my parents still ate them which in turn is the best memory ever of my grandpa!

  2. Thinking of you, Connie, Mark, and Pam, and sending many, many condolences. Xoxo Maia
