Lina Zavatti, cherished mother, grandmother, and devoted member of the Colorado Springs community, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on December 20, 1938, in the picturesque town of Pacentro, Italy, Lina’s life journey was one marked by resilience, love, and dedication to family and faith.
In the 1950s, amidst the aftermath of World War II, Lina’s family sought a new beginning in the United States. Arriving in New York City on her 18th birthday, December 20, 1956, Lina joined her father Paolo, sister Francesca, and brother Donato in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her mother, Bambina, followed later, after Lina’s eldest sister Maria married in Pacentro. It was in Pittsburgh that Lina met her future husband, Rocco Zavatti, a fellow Italian immigrant from Cansano. Their marriage on June 18, 1960, marked the beginning of a new chapter, as they moved to Colorado Springs, where they would lovingly raise four children and two grandchildren.
Education was a cornerstone of the Zavatti family values, and Lina, alongside Rocco, ensured that their children and grandchildren were given opportunities for higher learning. Lina took immense pride in her family’s accomplishments, often sharing with a beaming smile how her granddaughter had become an attorney, affirming, “I am a proud grandma!”
A devout Christian, Lina was a steadfast member of Corpus Christi Church for over six decades. Her involvement with The Ladies Guild was a testament to her unwavering commitment to her faith and community, until her health began to decline. Known for her tireless work ethic, Lina was often described by Rocco’s business partner as the hardest working woman he knew. Yet, it was her love for family and friends that truly defined her, as she was ever present and supportive in their lives.
Lina was predeceased by her beloved husband, Rocco C. Zavatti, and her daughter, Connie Zavatti. She is survived by her children: Bobbie Contreras (Pete), Paula Zavatti-Rainbow (Thomas), and Nick Zavatti (Nikole); her beloved grandchildren, Christopher Contreras and Christina Contreras; her brother, Donato Agostinelli (Tonina), and brother-in-law, Salvatore Zavatti (Diane); and her much loved nieces and nephews who continue to honor her legacy of love and perseverance.
The funeral services for Lina Zavatti will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church on Friday, April 11, 2025, with a Rosary at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass at 10:00 a.m. A luncheon will take place immediately after in the Church Hall. Lina’s final resting place will be alongside her beloved husband at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, where they will be reunited in eternal peace.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Pikes Peak Hospice, 2550 Tenderfoot Hill Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80906 in honor of Lina Zavatti.
