Lois, a longtime resident of Colorado Springs, peacefully passed away May 14th in her home.
Lois was born February 22, 1927, to Albert Martin Horgen and Gina Elizabeth (Livgard) Horgen in Boyd, Minnesota. After high school she attended a one-year Teacher’s Training program, where she proudly taught in rural Minnesota districts (one room schoolhouses) for five years. On December 30, 1950, she married Merlin Laabs at her parent’s home in Boyd, while he was home on leave. They were blessed with 61 years of marriage.
Lois was a homemaker, great cook-known for her fried chicken! In her quiet way Lois served others and was generous beyond measure. As a long time, active, participating member of Grace Lutheran Church, she served in many capacities. Lois enjoyed her family, friends, sporting events, reading, sewing, quilting, and singing hymns. The Laabs were custodians of Grace for 32 years. Lois loved her Lord and Savior!
Lois is survived by her children: Keith, Cathie White (Randy), Joel (Sue), Brian (Lorinda), Kevin (Barri); her siblings: Karen Horgen and Donna Legrid; eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers: Kenneth and Milton; her husband Merlin; and grandson Seth.
A memorial service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church on Saturday, June 18th at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Property Projects fund at Grace Lutheran.
