Lois Sudduth, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully after a courageous journey through illness. She was known for her deep kindness, resilient spirit, and enduring love for the mountains she called home.
Raised in Montezuma, CO and the Silver Cliff/Westcliffe, CO area, Lois had a lifelong connection to the outdoors. From a young age, she eagerly accompanied her father, a U.S. Forest Service Ranger, into the mountains each summer to build and maintain trails, care for campsites, and tend to the family’s horses. Her deep appreciation for nature and service was further reflected in her active involvement in the 4-H Club, winning a weeklong trip to Camp Tobin during the State Fair, and the Masonic Rainbow Girls. The Wet Mountain Valley always held a special place in her heart, and she returned often to visit the place she considered her true home.
A proud graduate of Air Academy High School, Lois began her career with School District 20, serving as both a school bus driver and custodian. Later, she became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), caring for her parents and continuing her work in caregiving with compassion and dedication. Lois worked at Namaste, Union Printers Home, and all the Penrose Hospitals, earning recognition for her attentive and heartfelt care. After suffering a stroke, Lois was forced into retirement. She spent her remaining years facing physical challenges with grace and bravery. Now, at last, she rests in peace.
Lois is preceded in death by her parents, Ruby and John “Jack” Lowney. She is survived by her sons, Scott (April) and Kevin (Angie); her grandsons, Troy (Maddie) and Ryan (Aubry); and her great- grandsons, Grayson and Ryker. She also leaves behind her sisters, Janet and Sharon, and her former husband, Jerry Sudduth. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life and interment at Lakeside Cemetery in Canon City will be held at a later date.
