Louie Steffens, a resident of Colorado Springs for 50 years, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2013.

Louis Allen Steffens was born on October 8, 1932 in Primghar, Iowa to Louis and Reba (Gately) Steffens. He married Betty Hoeppner on February 6, 1954 in Primghar, Iowa.

He served 23 years in the USAF, including a tour in Vietnam, and specialized in aircraft maintenance. After retiring from the service he bought the Hancock Car Wash and operated it for 25 years. He was an avid motor scooter enthusiast and an expert in all things mechanical; “If man made it, Louie could fix it.” He was also a member of TREA and AFSA.

Louie (Lou, Dad, Pop, Grampa, Sonny), was much loved and will be sadly missed by family and friends.

Louie is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Betty Steffens; daughters: Debbie “Spooky” Clarke (husband, Bruce), Diane “Squeaky” Armstrong (husband, Mike), Denise “Sissy” Palmer (husband, Richard); sons Kevin “Skeeter” and Kyle “Speedy”; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Kent “Smokey”, in 1999.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at TREA, 834 Emory Circle, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
