Lula May “Lou” Rawe
Lou Rawe, passed away on Sunday, October 2nd. She lived in the Calhan area on a cattle ranch with her husband since 1979.
Lou was born on October 16, 1938 to Lorance Cobert Zopp and Emma Mae (Fuller) in West Virginia.
She attended grade school and high school in Charleston, West Virginia. She attended business college at the IBM and Remington Rand Computer School in Charleston.
She married F. A. “Tony” Rawe on September 26, 1961. Together they enjoyed living in various foreign countries as she accompanied her husband in his career. They lived for about three years each in Ankara, Turkey, Bern, Switzerland, Bangkok, Thailand, and Vienna, Austria. They also lived in Fort Benning, Georgia, Fort Bliss, Texas, Fort Carson, Colorado, and the Army Language School in Monterey, California. She enjoyed touring in the various countries; especially exploring the many ancient Christian sites in Turkey.
She was an accomplished painter, loved sewing, needlecraft, crocheting, knitting, playing the piano, and was an amazing cook.
She is survived by her loving husband, Tony; her children: Ellen Bone, and Anthony Rawe; her brother, Eugene Zopp; and sister, Jacqueline Zopp. She had five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by their first son, Scott Anthony, and her parents.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, October 13th at Saint Michael Church in Calhan, Colorado at 10:00 AM. A luncheon will follow. Her eternal resting place will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
