Margaret Catherine Petersen died at 80 years of age on August 15 after a year-long battle with cancer. She was born on May 23, 1932 in St. Petersburg, Florida to the late William Isaac and Christine Pyne.
Marge attended Northwestern College in Minneapolis where she met her husband, Jim Petersen. They married in 1954. In 1958 they joined the staff of The Navigators, an international discipleship ministry. In 1963 they moved to Brazil to pioneer Navigator efforts in that country. They lived in Brazil for the following twenty-four years, until 1986, when they moved to Colorado Springs to participate in the international leadership of the organization.
Family was at the center of Marge’s life. She loved to serve her children – and anyone else that happened to be around. She loved to lift the load for people and help them succeed. Her hobbies included sewing and fashion. Ballroom dancing was also a favorite as it gave her a chance to wear her creations. She was a classy lady. But she will be most remembered for her faith and the way she would pray. Nothing was too big or too small for her to take to God. Her list of answers is legendary.
Marge is survived by her husband, Jim; and their four children; Michelle McMahan (Glenn), Todd Petersen, Raquel Petersen Seal (Sam), and Rochelle Raimåo (Miguel). She has a total of seven grandchildren. Marge also has three surviving siblings; Dorothy Springer, William Pyne and Neil Pyne. One brother, Allan Pyne, is deceased.
A visitation will be held from 12:00 until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 19, 2012 at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. A memorial service is planned for 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the Glen Eyrie Great Hall, 3820 N 30th Street. Private interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
