Maria Glenda Hooks lost her long battle to cancer at age 61. She was welcomed into this world on October 8, 1956 in Rocky Ford, Colorado and departed on November 8, 2017 from Colorado Springs, Colorado.
She married SFC Stephen Hooks in Denmark and they were married for 24 years. Along with her husband, she leaves behind four beautiful grandchildren whom she raised: Selina, Alicea, Serina, and Michael Jr.; one step daughter, Tamillia; 2 grandchildren, Tyeisha, and Kameron of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two sisters, Maria Sayer, and Mabel Torres of Colorado Springs; three brothers: Jon of Alabama, Clyde, and Anthony both of Colorado Springs. She was proceeded in death by her son, Michael D. Martinez; mother, Mary Martinez; father, Juan Martinez; and mother in law, Mary Alice Hooks.
Maria loved arts and crafts, designing, sewing, interior decorating, and drawing. She was also a collector of stamps, coins, postcards, and sports cards. She lived a long and adventurous life and loved her grandchildren.
Be joyous upon her departure as for now she is being serenaded by angels and being welcomed by her son, Michael Martinez.
The funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be private and at Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum.
