Marie Pemberton, age 96, passed away on January 17, 2017. She was a resident of Colorado Springs for 25 years and was formerly a resident of Kansas City, Kansas. She was the owner/operator of the Maverick Motel on West Colorado Avenue.
Marie was born on April 5, 1920 to Arthur and Gertrude Trader of Kansas City, Kansas. At age nineteen, she married Lee Pemberton in Kansas City and he preceded her in death in 1979.
Marie’s main hobby was her work. She enjoyed managing, upgrading and decorating the motel. She was also a member of the Colorado Cowboys for Jesus Church in Old Colorado City.
Marie is survived by her only son, Art (Emma) Pemberton and her grandchildren: Tami of Missouri, Jinger of Texas, Aaron, David and Amber of Kansas City and Teri of Oregon as well as several great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 23, 2017 at the Colorado Cowboys for Jesus Church, 11 N. 22nd Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80904. There will be a reception at the church immediately following the service. A private burial will take place at Crystal Valley Cemetery in Manitou Springs.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Marie’s name to the Colorado Cowboys for Jesus Church.
