Marilyn J. Dewell, age 74, passed away after a long battle with cancer on August 3, 2012 at Pikes Peak Hospice. She was born on July 17, 1938 in Walsenburg, Colorado, daughter of Louis Marcon and Josephine Repola Marcon. Marilyn attended Saint Mary High School in Walsenburg, Colorado, Class of 1956.
She moved to Colorado Springs in 1970 where she became active in the home building industry. She married Lyman A. Dewell on August 3, 1974. In 1978 she was awarded “Builder of the Year” by the Home Builders Association of Colorado Springs and was the first woman elected to the Board of Directors for the HBA. She served on numerous HBA committees and was Precinct Chairman for the Republican Party. She also volunteered for Memorial Hospital. Before retiring she owned Concept Kabinet Designs.
Marilyn enjoyed cooking, playing bridge, spending time in Cripple Creek, and traveling. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by a large family: son Scott Houghton and his wife Marion of Colorado Springs; son Randy Houghton of Big Lake, Alaska; daughter Lisa Scott of Durango, Colorado; grandchildren: Chase, Alyse and Tori Houghton, Seth Houghton and his wife Heather, Trevor Houghton, Tristan Houghton, Britni Henry and her husband Jake, Kelcie Scott and Trent Scott; great-grandchildren: Kaiden and Riley Henry, and Brayden Houghton; and siblings: Carol Geis of Gillette, Wyoming, Louis Marcon and his wife Sharon of Walsenburg, Colorado, and Ginny Mayville and her husband Chuck of Colorado Springs. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lyman; son James Houghton; and daughter Mary Susan Houghton.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 10, 2012 at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel. Inurnment will be at the Shrine of Remembrance Chapel Mausoleum, Ethel Merman Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Marilyn’s memory to the Pikes Peak Hospice Foundation, 2550 Tenderfoot Hill Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80906.
She was loved by many and will be missed by all.
