Marjorie K. “Margie” Hetzel, age 72, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1948, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at A Robins Nest in Colorado Springs. She was retired and had been the Head Baker for Colorado Springs District 11 Food Service.
Marjorie Kay Murray was born on February 18, 1941 in Aberdeen, South Dakota to the late Lloyd and Alice (Hart) Murray. She was a 1959 graduate of Colorado Springs High School and attended Pikes Peak Community College for training as a Baking Specialist.
She married Bruce L. Hetzel on March 10, 1962 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs. She had been a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Mount Calvary Lutheran Church and was currently a member of Ascension Lutheran Church and its Ruth Circle. Margie was also involved with the Red Hat Society and the Knotty Knitters Group at Ascension Lutheran Church and the FCRV Silver Foxes RV Club.
She is survived by her loving husband, Bruce of Colorado Springs; her sons: Norman (wife, Carrie) Hetzel of Colorado Springs; and Edward Hetzel of Colorado Springs. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Alicia (husband, Phil) Tenbrink of Westminster, Colorado and Sarah Hetzel of Colorado Springs. Marjorie has two brothers: Gerald (wife, Marilyn) Murray of Plano, Texas and Larry (wife, Barbara) Murray of Shawnee Mission, Kansas.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 31, 2014 Ascension Lutheran Church, 2505 N. Circle Drive, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909. A luncheon reception will follow the services in the fellowship hall. Private inurnment will take place at the Church Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Ascension Lutheran Church’s Memorial Fund.
