Mark Alan Crompton, age 62, of Chapel Hill, NC, died on April 2nd, 2018. Mark had been struggling with PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy), a rare neurodegenerative disease, for the past few years. This tragic disorder robbed Mark of his strength and finally, his life. Diane, Mark’s wife, took great care of “her guy” and he benefited from the skills of his caregiver, a saint of a man, Pastor Sibrian, for over a year. The family would like to thank the whole team of caregivers and friends for their compassion and friendship during Mark’s illness.
Mark was born on June 11, 1955 in Wichita, Kansas to Jack and Rita (Hunke) Crompton. He graduated from Roy J. Wasson High School in Colorado Springs, CO in 1973, and earned an undergraduate degree in Business from the University of Colorado in 1977, followed by a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Denver University. Mark played basketball, track and football in high school, and was an avid tennis player and golfer throughout his life.
He worked as a Treasury Analyst for Conoco in Billings, MT and Ponca City, OK, with DuPont in Wilmington, DE and more recently for Southern Company in Atlanta, GA. Mark and Diane Snyder were married in Chapel Hill, NC in 1999. Mark was preceded in death by his father, Jack Crompton and is survived by his wife, Diane, his mother Rita Crompton of Colorado Springs, his brother Jim (Sally) Crompton of Colorado Springs, his sister, Cathleen Licht of Colorado Springs, as well as many aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mark’s family and friends will miss him greatly. His sense of humor, his love of life and good wine (and beer) will leave a hole in our lives. His ashes will be laid to rest at the Shrine of Remembrance in Colorado Springs. A memorial tribute page has been set up at CurePSP (www.psp.org) for those of you that wish to remember Mark and contribute to finding ways to treat and hopefully cure this deadly disease. In lieu of flowers, or other offerings, the family requests that donations be made in Mark’s memory to CurePSP, 1206 York Rd., Suite L-4, Lutherville, MD 21093 or at www.curepsp.org.
Condolences and memories can be shared with the family on this Book of Memories in Colorado, or walkersfuneralservice.com in North Carolina.
