Marvelyn Gillespie Muskwinski
Marvelyn, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 4. She was a very proud 3rd generation native of Colorado. Born in Portland, Colorado, she moved to Colorado Springs at the age of 3 months.
Marvelyn was born on March 10, 1924 to Arthur and Mayme (Williams) Gillespie. She graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1942 and went to work for Alexander Film Company where she remained until her marriage to Steve Muskwinski on January 19, 1946 in Colorado Springs. In May of 1947, they welcomed the love of their lives, their daughter, Marvelyn.
A sports fanatic, she was a Broncos season ticket holder for 32 years, loved the NY Yankees, Colorado Rockies, and Denver Nuggets. One of her highlights was meeting her idol, Joe DiMaggio. She also saw Babe Ruth play in Denver at Merchants Field. Marv loved crafting but her true passion was knitting and she welcomed new neighbors with a pair of hand knitted slippers. Her love of children transcended everything. During her life, she cared for 24 children who remember “Miss Marv” fondly. She was a 50-year member of OES Ruxton Chapter #10, a charter member of the CSHS/Palmer Alumni Association, and a member of First United Methodist Church.
Marvelyn is survived by her daughter, Marvelyn (Richard) Randall. Mom always claimed Richard as her son because she didn’t believe in “in-laws”. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Steve; and brother, Arthur Gillespie.
We would like to thank the caring staff of Penrose Hospital for their loving care of our Mom.
A memorial service will be held, Tuesday, April 11 at 2:00 at Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel.
Memorials may be made to FUMC Children Ministries, 420 N. Nevada Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.
