Mary Evangeline Abeyta, age 82, passed away on November 10, 2021. She was a resident of Colorado Springs for 56 years and was formerly a resident of Monte Vista, Colorado. She was a homemaker and worked at Fort Carson for 17 years before retiring.
Mary was born on March 19, 1939, to Armando Martinez and Ruth (Garcia) Martinez in Antonito, Colorado. On November 5, 1960, she married John Abeyta in the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista, Colorado.
Mary was fond of doing things with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed sewing and shopping for antiques. She was a member of St Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church. Mary attended Monte Vista High School where she graduated in 1957, she went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Colorado-Pueblo.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, John; her children: Yvonne, John Jr and Joseph; her siblings: Betty, Wilbur, Pauline, and Ben; her grandchildren: Jesse Jr, Amanda, John III, Sarah, Joseph Jr, Angela and Jake; her great-grandchildren: Adilynn and Aelin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Armando and Ruth, and her sister Edna.
A visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. Monday, November 15 at St Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church. The visitation will be followed by a Rosary service. Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will be at the Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard.

15 Nov 2021Our God has taken one of his special angels home. Mary was such a beautiful, kind, loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. I know she will be greatly missed but never forgotten. Our prayers and condolences for all the family. God Bless all of you.
