Mary Hom Quan
April 2, 1922 – December 9, 2018
Mary Hom Quan passed away on December 9, 2018. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, the second daughter of parents who immigrated from China. Even though she lived in Colorado Springs for more than fifty years, she always felt a closeness to New Orleans.
Mary attended Newcomb College of Tulane University and worked as a medical technician. She married William “Bill” E. Quan, who was in the military. They moved to The Springs where he continued serving his country by counseling veterans. They had one daughter, Lynda Marye Quan.
Mary enjoyed traveling and collected many fond memories with her large family and close friends. She was a faithful member of All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church. After church, she enjoyed sharing meals at her favorite restaurant, Hunan Springs.
Mary is survived by her sister, Lillie Hom Gee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her daughter, Lynda; one brother; three half-brothers; and five sisters.
Throughout her life, Mary very generously gave to many organizations. In her honor, donations may be made to Chinese Presbyterian Church, 2901 West Esplanade, Kenner, Louisiana 70065 or All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 730 North Tejon Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903.
A memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church (address above). A reception will follow the service at the church. Inurnment will be at Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum.
