Mary Lou Romero, 86, passed away on December 14, 2021. She was a resident of Colorado Springs, CO for 60 years and was formerly a resident of Cimarron, New Mexico. She was retired but spent her working years as a cook in Colorado Springs School District 20. She also worked at the Saint James Hotel in Cimarron and The Philmont Scout Ranch, also in Cimarron.
Mary Lou was born March 9, 1935, to Juan Luis Vargas and Carmelita (Gauna) Vargas in Cimarron, New Mexico. She married Henry Romero Jr. in New Mexico.
Mary Lou, or Lou Lou as her friends called her, was very fond of WWE wrestling. She also loved playing bingo, enjoying margaritas with her friends, and watching old westerns. She graduated high school in Cimarron, NM.
She is survived by her children: Nick Romero, Richard Romero, Jeff Romero, Anthony Mark Romero, and Larry Romero; daughter-in-laws Valerie Romero and Stacy McClintic; and her grandchild, Nina Romero. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Romero Jr., and her eight siblings: Fedilina, Tom, Nick, Martha, Margaret, Romey, Rosie, and June.
A visitation will be held from 1-2 pm on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, with a service to follow from 2-3 pm at the Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 E Fountain Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80910.
Mary Lou’s wishes were to be taken back to Cimarron to be with her family. Information on the Memorial/Mass service to take place in Cimarron, NM will come at a later date.
