Mary Louise Tennant, age 103, passed away peacefully at her home in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on July 10, 2024.
Louise was born in Oakley, Idaho, on March 29, 1921, to Orson and Mabel Richins. She married Charles W. Tennant on February 21, 1945, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Louise was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Throughout her long and amazing life, she was involved in many activities. For many years, she taught the children and young ladies in her church. Louise loved to cook and no one entertained as elegantly as she did; she loved doing this as a military officer’s wife, a mother, a grandmother and a friend. Everyone loved her cooking! She was active in the Skyway Garden Club and kept many of these friends throughout her life. Louise and Charles loved spending time at their family mountain home where she loved walking, jeep rides, family picnics, and picking raspberries. She dearly loved watching sports with Charles and continued listening to football and basketball games on the radio with her son, Tim, even through her 103rd year. She followed the Broncos and the USAFA basketball team faithfully. While living in Japan during a military assignment for Charles, she learned to oil paint from her Sensei; several paintings hang in her daughter’s home. In addition to oil painting, Louise learned and loved the art of flower arranging. She was a tireless worker and kept a clean and lovely home. Louise was blessed with so much energy and independence – her children believed she willed herself to live for these many years. Her family, including her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, were always such a joy to her and filled her life with happiness and laughter.
Louise is survived by children: Timothy R. Tennant of Salida, Colorado, and Cynthia L. Gardner (husband, Kimball) of Richfield, Utah; 9 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren; as well as countless nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Tennant; her son, Michael B. Tennant; and her siblings: Martell, Harold, Claire, Verness, Wendell, Rachel and Austin.
Graveside services and Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Salida, Colorado. We love you Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, and Aunt Louise. We’ll miss you until we see you again!
