Mary Sue Smythe passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2015. She was a resident of Colorado Springs since 1985 and was a homemaker and a foster mom for many years in California.

Mary was born on February 11, 1929 in Lowndes, Missouri. She was the fourth of seven children born to Clarence Leonard Lasters and Sophia Anne (Bounds) Lasters.

She married Cleo Smythe on December 6, 1946 in St. Louis, Missouri. He preceded her in death in 2004.

Mary was an active grandma, attending sporting events and volunteering for her children and grandchildren. She was even the manager of her daughter’s softball team.

She was a member of Fellowship of the Rockies Church. She enjoyed baseball, painting, and was an avid reader. But most of all she loved her family and God.

She is survived by two sons: Dale Smythe of Wrightwood, California, Terry (wife Terry) Smythe of Hemet, California; her daughter, Tammy (husband Rob) Quarry of Colorado Springs, Colorado. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Eric, Jason, Deanna, Derek, Danny, Danielle, Brayden, and KC; and eight great-grandchildren: Megan, Roland, Zack, Caitlyn, Haley, Kimberly, Madison, and Emma. She was preceded in death by her husband, and her six siblings.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 20, 2015 at Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel.

In lieu of flowers charitable contributions may be made to Pikes Peak Hospice.
