Matthew James Howard Montoya, 37 years old, passed away on February 7, 2025, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Matthew was raised in Bloomfield, New Mexico.
Matthew was born on April 30, 1987, to Raymond and Olivia Montoya in Farmington, New Mexico.
Matthew was the eighth of ten children; he was the baby of the 6 boys. His love for his family was unmeasured. He gave the greatest hugs and would brighten a room with his presence. Matthew had a love for low-riders and old-school music.
He is survived by his daughter, Niyah Montoya; his parents: Raymond and Olivia Montoya; siblings: Roberta Clark (Wayne), Ramona Padilla (Jamie), Isabel Passig (Thomas), Raymond Montoya, Eppie Montoya (Nadine), Manuel Montoya, Adam Montoya, Aaron Montoya (Nikki), Delia Montoya (Daniel), and Maria-Elena Montoya; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by paternal grandparents: Daniel and Deluvina Montoya; material grandparents: Joe (Jose) Lucero and Delia Lucero-Salas; niece, Zyanna Montoya; and nephews: Shawn Trujillo and Manuel Montoya Jr.
A rosary will be held on February 22, 2025, at 10:30am before the funeral mass service at 11am at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Bloomfield with Father Francis Akano officiating. Interment will follow immediately at St. Rose de Lima Church in Blanco. A reception will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Hall.
