At the age of 97.5 Mavis Constance Marguerite Frawley (Mom, Nanny, Chat, La Grande Dame) passed away peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones.

Mavis was a 35 plus year resident of Colorado Springs. She died in loving care at Pikes Peak Hospice at Penrose Hospital, on March 24, at 7:40 pm. Born August 9, 1920 – Livron, France – passed away March 24, 2018 – Colorado Springs, Colorado. Parents Pierre Reymond Charles Vinard and Louise Constance Vinard (maiden name James) and sister Monica. Mavis spent much of her childhood between Southern France and Isle of Wight, England.

In 1945 while serving as an interpreter and nurse for the American soldiers in Chamonix, France she met the man of her dreams. Eugene Vincent Frawley was a member of the U.S. Army Ski team. Mavis loved skiing and the outdoors and was captivated by Eugene’s all American good looks and charm. They were married on December 14, 1946 in the South of France.

Mavis spent many summers camping with her husband and 8 children at Montauk, Long Island, NY. Sunshine, ocean air, swimming, enjoying the beauty of nature, being with family and friends, and meeting new people filled her soul. Her strength, love, smile, open arms and unconventional ways taught those around her to be their own person. She never put on airs or tried to fit in. She was a loving soul, full of love for family, with much compassion for those with less and for immigrants of all races and religions that had come to settle in America. She became an American citizen in Denver, Colorado in 1991. In 1977, at the age of 56, she received her Master’s Degree in French Literature.

She leaves a legacy of 8 children and 21 grand and 13 great grandchildren. She had a thirst for knowledge, history, philosophy, literature, science and new age thoughts. Listening to classical music, knitting, painting, drawing, reading, and conversations were outlets for her endless energy. She never met a stranger that she didn’t consider a friend. She didn’t care to have the best but was always shared the best she had. She will forever be missed. Her love will carry through to all her family and the lives she touched.

Her family is honoring her wishes for cremation. Services will be held at a later time when more of her family and loved ones can attend.

In Loving Memory of Mavis Constance Marguerite Frawley, August 1920 – March 2018.
