Maxine Frueh Byrd-Ambrose

Maxine Frueh Byrd-Ambrose, age 86, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1964, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2012 at her home. She was a longtime head clerk for Safeway at the Bon Shopping Center and retired from the Carefree Safeway.
Maxine Amelia Frueh was born on May 17, 1925 in Maryville, Missouri to the late Leonard and Lucy (Walk) Frueh. She was a 1943 graduate of Maryville High School. She married Hulon Byrd in 1947 in Atlanta, Georgia, raised a family and made a career with Safeway. Hulon died in 1993. She later married Robert W. Ambrose in 1999 in Topeka, Kansas. Together they lived in Springer, Oklahoma and El Dorado, Kansas. Robert died in 2010. She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. She enjoyed meeting and talking to people. She will be best remembered for her generosity, sense of humor, and forgiving spirit. She was a long time sponsor and volunteer for Al-Anon.
She is survived by her four children: Ned (wife, Kristin) Byrd of Black Forest; Nancy Byrd of Colorado Springs; Marsha (husband, Jim) Shelton of Nashville, Tennessee; and Amelia (husband, Bob) Sheets of Fairplay, Colorado. She has six grandchildren: Elizabeth, Ryan, Daniel, Travis, Allison, and Leah; and six great grandchildren. Also surviving are her two brothers: Raymond (wife, Rose) Frueh and Bernard (wife, Margaret) Frueh, all of Maryville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 20, 2012 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2318 North Cascade Avenue. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. A reception will follow the Mass at the Corpus Christi Fellowship Hall. Private entombment will follow the services at 1:00 p.m. at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, Gate of Heaven.
