Melvin C. (Ernie) Shaffer, age 62, passed away on July 27, 2020. He was a resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado for 35 years and was formerly a resident of Lancaster, California.
Ernie was born on October 8, 1957 to Edward Melvin Shaffer and Stella Holmes (Ritchhart) in Roswell, New Mexico. On March 23, 1991 he married Kimberly C. (Luttrell) Shaffer.
Ernie was fond of shooting, also enjoyed fishing, and had an appreciation for toys, children, and Santas. He attended Quartz Hill High School and graduated in 1975. He served in the United States Army for three years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kim, and his brother, George Clay Shaw III. He was preceded in death by his mother, Stella Marie (Sam) Ritchhart, brother, Kevin Ritchie, and brother, Michael Irvin Shaffer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ernie’s name may be made to the Pikes Peak Humane Society, 610 Abbot Lane, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

11 Jan 2021Ernie was such a great guy! We just happened to find his obituary today (January 10, 2021). Had no idea that he had passed. Dave met Ernie many years ago when they worked together at Randy’s Landscaping. Then we stayed in touch at Christmastime ever since. Oh, Kim…we are so very sorry for your loss. We will always remember Ernie for his sense of humor. May he Rest In Peace.
