Mitzy Powell (92), of Widefield, passed away on March 6, 2025. Born Michiko Sumie Onazawa in Nagano, Japan, on March 27, 1933, Mitzy married Harry J. Powell (deceased April 1, 1996) in Tokyo, Japan on August 22, 1955. As an Army wife, Mitzy resided in Kansas, Germany, Okinawa and Colorado.
Following retirement from a lengthy career at Ampex, Mitzy enjoyed an active social life and cultural activities with many Japanese friends. Mitzy’s hobbies included knitting and crocheting, cooking, karaoke, fine dining and fashion.
Mitzy is survived by daughter Cindy Powell of Widefield, CO; son Roger C. (Ann Marie) Powell of Boston, MA; grandson Roger E. (Megan) Powell and great granddaughter Jemma of Eau Claire, WI; granddaughter Nicki (Todd) Pazdra of Stevens Point, WI; granddaughter Brynn (Daniel) Cadigan of Kalispell, MT; great grandson Gavin Schultz and great great granddaughter Olivia Schultz of Eau Claire, WI.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, March 17, 2025, at the Shrine of Remembrance at 1730 East Fountain Boulevard in Colorado Springs, followed by a committal at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Evergreen Cemetery at 1005 Hancock Expressway in Colorado Springs.
