Mildred “Millie” Sturgis, 96, passed away on December 5, 2022, in Colorado Springs, Colorado where she had been a resident since 1959. Millie was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 29, 1926. She grew up in Chicago and later lived in Germany.
Millie was a faithful member of St. Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church. She worked as an administrative assistant in the US Civil Service. Millie enjoyed reading and digital artwork (painting).
Millie is survived by her two sons: George A. Sturgis, Jr. (Beth) and Father Milan S. Sturgis (Leah); her sister: Zorka Corley (Otis); three grandchildren: Mileva, George, and Nick; and two great-grandchildren: Charlotte and August. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers: Nick and Sgt. Milan Basara, US Army Air Corps.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, December 13, 2022, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel, 1720 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910. The Trisagion (Memorial) service will be at 7:00 pm.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at St. Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church, 2215 Paseo Rd., Colorado Springs, Colorado 80907. Following the service, Millie will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery.
