Morris Elder
Morris Elder, age 94, a resident of Colorado Springs for 49 years, passed away on September 13, 2012 at a local nursing center. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who had retired from the United States Air Force.
Morris was born on December 21, 1917 in Seagraves, Texas to the late Zechariah John and Alice Enola (Williams) Elder. He met Sarah Melton, his future bride, during school years and married a few years later on March 10, 1941 in Roswell, New Mexico.
Morris served his country for 31 years in the Air Force as a Flight Schedule Operations Officer. After retiring, he worked at the Colorado Deaf & Blind School for 10 years. He was a member of the Freemason, Shiner, Sojourner, and Sertoma organizations. He loved volunteering and delivered Meals on Wheels for 30 years. He was a charter member of Heritage Baptist Church.
Morris is survived by his son, Raye (wife, Rose) Elder; and his daughter, Susan (husband, Ted) Slosky; five granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his six brothers, his only sister, his parents, and he is joining his lovely bride, Sarah, who passed away on May 22, 2012.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. Funeral Services are planned for 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at the Colorado Springs Masonic Lodge #76, 1150 Panorama Drive. Entombment will be at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, Garden of Angels.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Morris’ name may be made to Silver Key Senior Services, 2250 Bott Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80904.
