Neva B. Torbit (Cristoffer), age 91, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2015. She was born on the family homestead near Pritchett, CO on October 24, l923, the 12th of 13 children born to Fredrick and Vida Mae Cristoffer. At an early age the family moved to Springfield, CO. After her father’s death in l933, the family moved briefly to Fountain, CO and then to Colorado Springs. Neva graduated from Colorado Springs High School in l941.

She married Charles “Bud” Torbit in Raton, NM in l941. There were four children born to that union: Sharon Sitzman (Ron), Charles (Marilyn), Cathy Murphy and Stephen (Ann).

Neva was the Administrative Secretary for School Dist. #8 for many years. Her husband’s career took them to many different cities. Consequently, Mrs. Torbit also worked at several universities including Colorado State, Stanford and Vanderbilt. Neva and Bud retired to Fountain where they built a new home. After Bud’s death she remained in Fountain. Neva was involved in establishing the Fountain Valley Historical Society and Museum and she was able to share historical pictures and stories of both the Torbit and Toothman families.

One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Torbit is survived by 3 of her children, 9 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bud, son Charles, as well as her parents and all of her siblings.

A Memorial Service for Mrs. Torbit will be held Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 2 pm at Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, 80910. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Fountain during a private ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Neva Torbit’s memory may be made to the Fountain Valley Historical Society and Museum, 114 N. Main St., Fountain, CO 80817.
