Nolan, 74, of Calhan, passed away on August 14, 2017 at his home. He was under the care of Adobe Hospice and surrounded by his wife, Cathy; family, and friends. He was born in Garden City, Kansas on Dec. 27, 1942, the son of Emma (Cook) Carroll and the late Ernest Carroll. He was united in marriage in Falcon, Colorado on October 22, 1988, to Cathy Rudolph, who survives.
Nolan started his automotive parts career at Phil Long Ford on April 1, 1968 and was there until his retirement on November 30, 2005. After retirement Nolan remained active in his community and enjoyed caring for his and Cathy’s country property, to include caring for over 300 trees which he planted after they moved in.
Nolan was a member of the US Army, then the National Guard. He was an active member in The American Legion Post 2011 of Calhan. Nolan also served 6 years on the El Paso County Highway Advisory Committee and 6 years on the El Paso County Fair Advisory Board. He was very active in his church, Rush United Methodist Community Church. At his church, he took great pride in singing in the choir, playing his guitar and singing for all of the special programs.
Nolan enjoyed attending car shows, to show his 1965 Ford F100. He was also an avid barbwire collector and the tools used to string that barbwire.
Nolan is survived by his mother, Emma; wife, Cathy; two daughters, Teila(Jeff) Tankersley, and Tona Lujan; one son, Darin; one sister, Marsha Rau; one step son, Jeff Arnold; five nephews: Daryl, Derek, Devin, Dan and Monte; plus numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest; and brother, Dorsey.
Nolan’s celebration of life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 26, 2017 at the Rush Community
United Methodist Church.
