Nolon Edward “Ed” Moles
Nolon Edward “Ed” Moles passed away December 26, 2012.
He was born August 22, 1931 to the late Cleveland Moles and Jessie Moles Lee. Ed was married for 61 years to his childhood sweetheart, Charlene “Char” Bennett, with whom he had three children.
Ed joined the United States Air Force after graduating from Curry High School in Jasper, Alabama in 1951. His tours included Korea; Macon, Georgia; San Angelo, Texas; Wichita Falls, Texas; Washington D.C.; Greenville, Mississippi; Honolulu, Hawaii; and Colorado Springs. After retiring from the Air Force in 1977, he worked for U.S. West for 15 years.
Ed was an avid basketball and football player in his youth. He was offered a scholarship to play basketball and football at Alabama University which he declined due to his commitment to serve in the United States Air Force. He also enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing, and traveling. He belonged to Hilltop Baptist Church and The Retired Enlisted Association. His faith in God was strong. He finished the race and fought the good fight.
Ed is survived by his wife; his son, Gregory (wife, Susan); daughter, Dorenda (husband, Mike) Bost; grandsons: Justin (wife Chelsea) Moles, and Cody Moles; granddaughters: Caitlin Moles and Lauren Bost; one great-grandson, Henry Moles; and one brother, Ferrell. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sharla; his parents; and two brothers: Dean and Durward.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 2, 2012 at Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2012 at Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel.
