Olive M. Bowden passed away at home in Colorado Springs, March 3, 2014.

She was born October 12, 1923 in Toledo, Ohio to Claude and Lillian Sorden, and was married to an Air Force officer and pilot, Frank Bowden, for thirty-two years.

Olive grew up in Montgomery, Alabama and was a member of the Highland Baptist Church. Later she moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, graduated from the University of Albuquerque in 1972 with an Associate’s Degree in nursing followed by graduating cum laude in 1975 with a Bachelor’s Degree in University Studies, as well as Master Equivalency in University Studies. She served in the Albuquerque Public Schools as an RN until her retirement in 1990 and moved to Colorado Springs in 1993. She also obtained Ham radio, pilot, and real estate licenses.

In her spare time she loved oil painting, gardening (especially roses), sewing, reading, mountain camping, and golf. She was an avid football fan. But most of all, she lived for and loved her family and family gatherings. She loved to organize family reunions, holidays and special occasion dinners.

She is survived by her children: Carole B. Whitney of Colorado Springs, Don H. Bowden of Amarillo, Texas, and Roger C. Bowden of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; four grandsons: Mark Whitney, Mikale Bowden, Alexander Bowden, and Shane Bowden; three granddaughters: Alixa Jordan, Robin Tuck, and Tessa Bowden; two great-granddaughters: Heather Marion and Laurel Marion; and one great-grandson, Tristan Bowden. Olive was preceded in death by her son, Rod Bowden; and her grandson, Luke Bowden.

A private memorial service will take place.
