P. Lorraine Sorensen

Phyllis Lorraine Sorensen, 90, passed away on October 6, 2015. Lorraine was born June 4, 1925 in Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin to Walter and Madeline Burns. She was the oldest of five children. She grew up on a farm in Boaz, Wisconsin, working in the tobacco fields and milking cows. She also worked on her grandfather’s farm.
She is survived by her loving husband of 18 years, Carroll Sorensen; 3 daughters: Dianna (Mel) Tolbert of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Sharon (Tom) Miller of Crane Hill, Alabama, and Sandra (Jim) Simmons of Cummings, Georgia. A brother: Dr. James (Dixie) Burns of Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin. Grandchildren: Maria (Eric) Gray of Peculiar, Missouri, Jennifer (Dave) Harty of White Salmon, Washington, Aaron (Cari) Miller of Crane Hill, Alabama, 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her siblings: Keith Burns; Virgeane Beiter; and Arlene Schoville.
Lorraine worked in the 1940’s powder plant in Lodi, Wisconsin packing munitions for World War II. In the 60’s she started working for the University of Wisconsin Medical School as Histopathology Technician for 25 years. After retiring, she moved to Florida and met her husband, Carroll. Together they moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado where they resided the last 18 years.
She made many friends at the First Evangelical Free Church. Lorraine loved her home in the mountains and her grandchildren.
A public visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, October 12, 2015 at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home, 1730 E. Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at the First Evangelical Free Church, 820 N. 30th Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80904. A reception is scheduled immediately following funeral services at First Evangelical Free Church. Burial at Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
