Phillis Lucille (Thompson) Sherwood of Colorado Springs, Colorado left this earth for her Heavenly home on Sunday, February 16, 2020.
Born on November 4, 1921 in Estelline South Dakota to Sever and Ida Thompson. She lived a long, wonderful life of 98 years. She was the youngest of nine children with her twin brother Phillip dying at birth. She had three older brothers: Melvin Thompson, Murel Thompson, Helmer Thompson and four older sisters; Lila Lenz, Lola Middleton, Pearl Pritchard, and Gertrude Linneman, now all deceased. She was married to Burton Duane Sherwood for 59 years, when he passed away in 1999. Phillis worked in the service industry, always waiting on and helping others. She loved life, her family, her God and dancing!
Phillis was always thinking about others and never complained. She would say that she couldn’t complain because there were so many others that had it worse. She always looked for the good in someone, anyone that knew her loved her. She loved to go to estate sales and watch “The Pickers” on TV. She had a strong belief in God and is with Him now. Comments from loved ones include; “Aunt Phillis was a very special lady who touched the lives of everyone”, “my hero, my awesome, wonderful, loved, blessed, grandma is now in he arms of Jesus”, “she really enjoyed life ,quite the little spitfire”, “such a beautiful lady with so much love and spunk”, “a very special lady who touched the lives of everyone”, “what a wonderful spirit! She will live on in our hearts”, “always had a great sense of humor. She will be missed by all those that knew her”, “Heaven got one spunky angel with a heart of gold today. Phillis embraced life and everyone in it. Thought of her as my own special grandma. She was such a blessing”, “Eyesight and hearing failed but she had her sense of humor until the end.”
She is survived by her three sons: Ronnie Eugene (Frankie Faye) Sherwood of Peachtree Corners, Georgia, Robert Arlan (Mary Lou) Sherwood of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Gregory Charles Sherwood of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Eleven grandchildren: Tahnya Lynnea Sherwood ,Dr. Jennifer Anneke Sherwood Bragg, Mark Anthony Sherwood, Auston John Sherwood, Molly Marie Sherwood Duval, Robert Berton Sherwood, Nichole Sarah Sherwood, Jennica Mae Sherwood, Tobias Chapman Sherwood, Nathaniel Barto Sherwod, Candace Vasti Heard, twenty-one great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
“Mother, although you can’t be here with us, we’re truly not apart; until the final breath we take, you’ll be living in our heart!”
Celebration of Life will be held 12:00PM Sunday, March 08, 2020 at Robert and Mary Lou Sherwood’s residence, 2618 Ashgrove Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80906.
Inurnment of Phillis and Burton Sherwood will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, March 9, 2020 at Pikes Peak National Cemetery, 10545 Drennan Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80925.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Marian House Soup Kitchen, 14 West Bijou Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903. Phillis was always concerned about the homeless and she loved the soup at Marian House. (Thank you, Jim!)
