Phyllis Elaine (Wilson) Jacobson, age 91, passed away on January 4, 2015. Phyllis was born on February 15, 1923, to Roy Wilson and Roberta (Castor) Wilson in Clarion, Iowa. On September 24, 1943, she married Kendall Jacobson in Clarion. After his death, she moved to Lakewood, Colorado, and then to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where she resided until her death.
Phyllis attended McPhail School of Music in Minneapolis, Minnesota, after graduation from Clarion High School. She then lived and worked in Chicago for a short while before returning to Clarion. She was a member of the United Methodist Church where she co-led the children’s choir. Phyllis was very active in Clarion’s musical community and enjoyed accompanying many groups as well as teaching piano lessons. While residing in Colorado Phyllis worked in banking and retail, took college classes at Arapahoe Community College and enjoyed volunteering at a homeless shelter.
Phyllis was an accomplished pianist and composer, a poet, a devoted friend of cats and dogs, an admirer of birds and butterflies, as well as a sports enthusiast. She had a radiant smile and could always find something to laugh about, but she will be most remembered for her love of family.
She is survived by her children: Carol Mechem (Randy) of Littleton, Colorado; Joyce Perry (Glenn) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Jo Ann Schmidt (Edwin) of St. Charles, Missouri; 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Wendell Wilson, her mother, Roberta Wilson, her father, Roy Wilson, and her husband, Kendall Jacobson.
A Celebration of Life was held for Phyllis in Colorado Springs on January 7, 2015. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion, Iowa, at a later date.
