Ralph S. Hemmert
July 13, 1939 – October 5, 2012
Ralph S. Hemmert, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully on October 5, 2012 in Castle Rock, Colorado. He was born in Afton, Wyoming on July 13, 1939, the third child of Ralph and Vera Hemmert of Grover, Wyoming.
Ralph graduated from Star Valley High School in 1957. After graduation he attended Utah State for a short time until he joined the Air Force in June 1959. He served as a munitions specialist for 16 years, to include service in Thailand and Laos in support of the Vietnam War, before becoming a First Sergeant for the remaining 14 years of his 30 year service to his country.
After retiring from the Air Force in June 1989, Ralph worked at the Base Exchange at Peterson AFB for 8 years before embracing retirement. In November 2005 he and his wife Dixie accepted a missionary calling for their church, serving the southern Colorado area.
Ralph was an avid fly fisherman and harbored a strong love of children, especially of his grandchildren. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 42 years, Dixie A. Hemmert; beloved children: Tod C. Hemmert, of Eagle River, Alaska, Holly A. Scott, of Peyton, Colorado, and Shane A. Hemmert, of Salt Lake City, Utah; and sisters Veloy, Juleen, Trudy and brother Von, all of Star Valley, Wyoming; and 7 adoring grandchildren.
Visitation will take place Thursday, October 11, 2012 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Shrine of Remembrance North Chapel, 5440 North Union Boulevard, Colorado Springs. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, October 12, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Palmer Park Ward, 2750 Melissa Drive, Colorado Springs. A second visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at Schwab Funeral Chapel, Jepperson Subdivision in Thayne, Wyoming. A graveside ceremony will be held on October 15, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the Freedom Cemetery, Freedom, Wyoming.
