Raymond Rodney Berry, 88, passed away on Monday May 22, 2017. He was a resident of Colorado Springs for 47 years. Ray was a Diesinker and retired in 1991.
Raymond was born on November 5, 1928 to Floyd and Lulu (Transue) Berry in Cortland, New York.
Since moving to Colorado Ray became an avid mineral collector, collecting crystals from all over the world. He owned several different mining claims throughout his collecting career and was an active member of The Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society serving as Show Committee Chairman and President. Ray was also an active member of Friends of Mineralogy.
Ray was a veteran of World War II and served in the United States Air Force from 1946 through 1948 achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. Ray was the Manager of an Armed Forces Radio Station WLKI in Fukuoka, Japan. This was the only radio station operated by the USAF in Japan. Ray was also a veteran of the Korean War serving at McChord Air Force Base in Washington from September 1950, through August 1951.
He is survived by two sons, Stephen and Robert, two granddaughters, Jacquelyn and Catherine, and seven great grandchildren, Brianna, Elijah, Eloise, Andrew, Haley, Nehemiah, and Amelia.
A memorial service will be held at Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80910 on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 720 South Colorado Blvd., Denver, CO 80246.
