Regina “Reggie” Schnitzer Flaks
December 9, 1919 – February 16, 2014
Reggie grew up in Sterling, Colorado. She graduated from Sterling High School and then attended the University of Denver where she met her late husband, Stanley R. Flaks. The two were married in 1940.
Reggie, an accomplished violinist, played in the Colorado Springs Symphony for over 25 years, beginning in 1950. She was involved in many aspects of the Colorado Springs Community including the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, Colorado Springs Symphony, Silver Key, the Pikes Peak Center, Temple Beit Torah Sisterhood, PAYO, Colorado Springs Symphony Guild, Hadassah, the Pikes Peak Opera Guild and many other local groups.
She became an artist, painting in the numerous mediums in addition to sculpting and wood cuts. Her artwork was displayed both locally and in numerous galleries in California. Reggie loved to play tennis and take care of her flowers. She and Stan loved to travel and did so all over the world. Most of all she loved her family and friends.
Reggie believed in “the family unit” and believed a family should participate closely in the community, social and religious activities and in her words; “Participation is never complete without the strength of the family and all its units working together.”
Reggie is survived by her two sons: Greg (Lesley), and Rick (Mindy); four grandchildren: David (Laurinda), Rachel (Brett) Flaks Waldman, Steve (Diane), Molly Flaks; and two great-grandchildren: Dylan and Hopey Waldman.
The family wishes to thank the dedicated caregivers who faithfully cared for both Stan and Reggie for the past several years and to the Pikes Peak Hospice for their wonderful care.
Final services and inurnment will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel on Monday, February 24, 2014. There will be a Celebration of Reggie’s Life at her home immediately following the service.
