Renate M. Berktold

Renate M. Berktold, 80, passed away on September 17, 2015. She was a resident of Monument, Colorado for 16 years. She was a homemaker and a Professional Seamstress.

Renate was an only child, born on May 8, 1935 to Max Hofl and Elisabet (Mayer) Hofl in Germany. She moved to the United States in 1955. On October 1, 1955 she married Josef A. Berktold in Chicago, Illinois at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Together with Josef they had two sons, Josef A. and Richard J. Berktold.

Renate was a fantastic cook and a great mother. She loved animals, especially her cats. She also enjoyed going on cruises with her husband throughout Europe to places such as Venice, Spain, and England.

Renate is survived by her loving husband, Josef; her children, Josef and Richard; a brother in law, Heinrich (Herta) Berktold; two sisters in law, Berta Lenkeit and Verena Bosnak. She is preceded in death by her parents, Max and Elisabet Hofl.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2015, at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910.
