Richard “Dick” Lavery of Colorado Springs, Colorado died on March 7, 2013 with his loving family by his side. He was 79 years old.
Richard was born on June 28, 1933 in Providence, Rhode Island. His parents were the late Everett J. Lavery and Marie Rose Ida Plante.
The Air Force became Richard’s career in 1952 and he proudly served his country for 30 years, retiring in 1982 at Peterson Air Force Base. His assignments included tours in Korea, the Philippines, Thailand, Alaska, Newfoundland, and Labrador. After retirement he supported the Peterson Air Force Base Chapel programs while serving as usher/greeter from 1982 to 2008. Following retirement, Richard settled in Colorado Springs where he enjoyed gardening, fishing, and sports activities, and having his family close by. He was affectionately called “GG-Pa” by his family.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Genevieve; his children: Charles A. (Jennifer) Lavery, John R. Lavery, Patricia A. (Frank) Jakos, and Angela M. (Jeffrey) Lavery-Stillwell. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Nicholas (Laura) Jakos, Aaron Jakos, Brittany (Daniel) Sours, and Christopher Lavery; two great-grandchildren: Aiden and Genevieve; and his sisters: Eleanor Deuso and Teresa M. Beattie. He was preceded in death by his sisters: SR Bernice Lavery and Doris Loffredo.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel with full military honors. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Private burial will take place at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
