Richard Michael Suriano age 94 passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. He was a resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado for 65 years.
Richard was born on June 9, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois to Michael T. and Evelyn O. Suriano. He attended New Trier High School, in Winnetka, Illinois, where he participated in swimming and gymnastics. Richard graduated in 1948. Richard spent 11 years in the U.S. Naval Reserves as an Aviation Ordnanceman while attending college in Greeley, Colorado to become a teacher. He spent his entire career with District 20 in Colorado Springs teaching classes in Biology and Earth Science.
On July 31, 1954 he married Lois E. Kitts in Greeley, Colorado. They had three sons: Michael, Jeffrey, and Richard.
He enjoyed outdoor sports including camping, fishing, and his love of elk hunting. He was very passionate about shooting sports and the safety of the sport. His other interests were WWII aircraft, boats, and wildlife. He made sure the birds around his house were fed.
Richard’s wife, Lois, preceded him in death in 2013 after 59 years of marriage. He is survived by three sons: Michael G. Suriano (Julia Lochra), Raleigh, NC; Jeffrey L. Suriano, Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Richard B. Suriano, Rogers, Arkansas, formerly Colorado Springs, Colorado.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 7th, 2024 at First Presbyterian Church, 219 East Bijou Street with a reception to follow at the church.
Memorials in Richard’s name may be made to First Presbyterian Church, the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, or to the charity of the giver’s choice.
