Rita D. Gibson, age 92, passed away peacefully at her home on October 13, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was a resident of Colorado Springs for over 50 years. She had lived in Wisconsin, Bermuda, and New York. She was a housewife, a super-mom, and the best grandma ever.
Rita was born on November 25, 1931, to Rosolino “Charlie” Dauro and Catherine (Giametta) Dauro in Gulfport, Mississippi. On September 11, 1955, she married Gerald “Jerry” William Gibson in Gulfport, Mississippi, and they were married for 62 wonderful years before his death in 2017.
Rita enjoyed cooking, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved animals and absolutely adored her dog, Spike, who was her constant companion.
She is survived by her children: Ann, Jane and Michael Dilsaver, Lisa and John Mitchell, and Gerald (Mamie); and her grandchildren: Ashley (Daniel) Garcia, Andrea (Kavan) Thomas, and Lillian “Ru” and Hunter Gibson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald, and her brother, Vincent Dauro.
There will be a private family inurnment at the Shrine of Remembrance in Colorado Springs.
