Rita Marie McCann, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away unexpectedly on January 6, 2021, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Rita was born in St. Killian, Minnesota on April 10, 1927 to John and Rosina (Krogman) Fath, she was one of five children.
In 1933, the family moved to a farm near Lismore, Mn. Where Rita attended St. Anthony’s Catholic school. Rita graduated in 1945 and was the Valedictorian of her high school class. After graduation, Rita helped her sister Kathleen care for her children on their farm and worked in a dress shop in Adrian, Mn. On January 19, 1949, Rita married Gerald McCann at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Lismore, Mn. They celebrated their 70th anniversary in 2019.
Gerald and Rita raised five children mostly in Colorado Springs. Gerald was in the Army and early on, he and Rita were stationed at Fort Carson, in Colorado Springs where they build two apartment houses in the evening after work. They would buy used furniture and Rita would reupholster it and use it to furnish the apartments. Rita was the accountant and she did the taxes until her death. Rita enjoyed playing bridge and dominos with her friends.
Rita is survived by her children, Linda Richardson, Steve McCann (wife, Paula), Don McCann (wife, Carole), and Genine Coldrick (husband, Brian); 9 grandchildren, Matt Richardson, Jeff Richardson, Cody McCann, Audra McCann, Alicia McCann, Kristen McCann, Chloe Coldrick, Blair Coldrick, and Olivia Coldrick; 3 great grandchildren, Andrew Richardson, Merritt Richardson, and Miles Richardson.
She was preceded in death by both parents; all of her siblings; husband, Gerald; and son, Lyle.
A family service will be held January 15th at 10:00 a.m. at the Shrine of Remembrance. A Celebration of Life will be held sometime in June.
