Robert “Bob” Charles passed away on May 15, 2017. He was a resident of Colorado Springs for 60 years and was formerly a resident of Oak Park, Illinois. Bob worked as an electrician until the age of 71.
Bob was born on May 3, 1936, to Charles Augustus LaMont II and Gladys (Kahle) Charles in Canton, Ohio. In 1977, Bob married Elizabeth “Betty” Wichman in Colorado Springs.
Bob was very fond of golf. Later in life, he coached both girl’s and boy’s golf at Coronado High School for several years. When he wasn’t enjoying 18 holes at Patty Jewett golf course, he was content to watch golf tournaments on TV or to peruse his favorite golf magazine. Bob loved to read and had an avid appreciation for history. He was a member of the Old Colorado City Historical Society. Bob was also deeply involved in the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry in Colorado Springs.
Bob graduated from Oak Park High School in Illinois and was awarded a full-ride scholarship to Yale University. After moving to Colorado, he also attended Colorado A & M, now Colorado State University.
He is survived by his three children: Kahle Charles, Hillary Charles, and Sam Charles; his siblings: Charles LaMont and Robert LaMont; and his grandchildren: Brandon Charles and Ryann Charles. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty and his brother, Monte LaMont.
A graveside service will be held at 12:30 pm on Saturday, May 27th, at Fairview Cemetery. A memorial service will be held, also on May 27th, at 2:00 pm at East United Methodist Church, 1505 East Monument Street, 80909. A reception will be held at the church immediately following the memorial service.
