Robert E. “Bob” Hill
Robert E. “Bob” Hill, age 79, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1970, passed away on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at a local care center after a valiant battle against Alzheimer’s disease. He worked several jobs over the years to provide for his family including auto/body, power plant, and the United States Postal Service. However, his love was always the family potato farm he grew up on and worked for years with his father. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather.
Robert Erwin Hill was born on May 25, 1933 in Fort Fairfield, Maine to the late Roy and Olive (Barnes) Hill. He was a 1952 graduate of Fort Fairfield High School and attended the University of Maine for agriculture. He served his country honorably in the United States Army. He married the love of his life, Patricia Louise Paschal on January 6, 1955 in Castle Rock, Colorado. They were married for fifty seven years when Pat passed away on December 13, 2011. Bob devoted his life to Pat and their family.
Bob was a member of the United Postal Workers Union. He loved to work with his hands, and was ALWAYS busy doing something. He could build or fix anything and loved working on cars. Even after Alzheimer’s took over he was never idle. He would re-arrange furniture, especially the artificial trees, and do things to help the staff where he lived. They never knew where they would find things. Bob was always a practical joker. His antics, story telling, and silly facial expressions kept everyone laughing. He loved spending time with his beloved wife and family. He will be best remembered for his sense of humor, kind heart, work ethic and his smiling blue eyes.
He is survived by his children: Bonnie (husband, John) Gentzel of Woodland Park; Kevin (wife, Cristina) Hill of Colorado Springs; Rob Hill of Divide; Chris (wife, Jurhree) Hill of Canon City and Tricia (husband, Gary) Borns of Hugo, Colorado. He is also survived by his sister: Marilyn (husband, Forrest) Bailey of Downingtown, Pennsylvania.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a sister: Carol Tatta of Wayne, Pennsylvania. He has eighteen wonderful grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel. A visitation is planned for 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Friday evening at the Shrine. Private entombment will follow the services at the Shrine’s Garden of Angels Mausoleum.
Memorials in Robert’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2315 Bott Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80904.
There will be a reception following the service at Bonnie’s home located at 1990 Valley View Dr. in Woodland Park.
We are so happy you are home Dad. God bless you.
