Robert J. McClinton
Robert J. McClinton, age 86, a lifelong resident of Colorado Springs, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at a local care center. He was a civil draftsman for NORAD for 30 years, and had a pool maintenance and design company. His most note-worthy work was on the United States Air Force Academy cadet chapel. He was a loving father, brother, grandfather and friend.
Robert Joseph McClinton was born on August 28, 1927 in Colorado Springs to the late Carl and Ethel (McKevla) McClinton. He was a 1945 graduate of Colorado Springs High School. He then entered the U.S. Merchant Marines and served on the Pacific Coast to Alaska and then with the army during World War II. He earned his BFA at the University of Denver. He married Helen Elizabeth Auge on October 20, 1956 at the Pauline Chapel in Colorado Springs.
Bob was a swimming enthusiast and had been past president of the Colorado Association of Swimming Officials. He was honored to be a turn judge in the 1972 Olympic Swimming Trials in Chicago. He enjoyed fishing at Eleven Mile Reservoir, making jewelry and loved art. He will be best remembered for his commitment to his wife: Helen, hard work and sense of humor.
He is survived by his daughter: Michele McClinton (husband, Brad Osborn) of Aspen, Colorado; and his son: Michael (wife, Rachael) McClinton of Seattle, Washington. He is also survived by his oldest sister: Jacquie Mercer of Denver, Colorado. He has two grandchildren: Aidan and Liam.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife: Helen, a brother: William McClinton, and a sister: Theresa Olson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 30 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2030 West Colorado Avenue. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials in Mr. McClinton’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1445 North Union Boulevard, Suite 100, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909.
