Russell C. Deehring, age 91, a 29 year resident of Colorado Springs and formerly of Barrington and Arlington Heights, Illinois, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2013 at a local hospital. He had retired in 1972 and had been a building manager for the Brunswick Building in downtown Chicago. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a longtime member of Al Kaly Shrine Mule Train.
Russell Clifford Deehring was born on July 11, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Henry and Elsie Deehring. He was a 1940 graduate of Lane Tech High School in Chicago. He served his country in the Navy during World War II. He married Alvera Sorby on October 16, 1943 in Chicago.
He is survived by his two children: Dr. Randall (wife, Caryn) Deehring of Avon, Ohio; and Deborah (husband, Stephen) Coonts of Colorado Springs. He has four grandchildren: Erin (husband, Eric) Klopfer; Melissa (husband, Arnaud) Montouche; Alison Deehring; and Patrick Hartley. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren: Hunter, Brenden, and Sebastien.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alvera in 1999; and his two brothers: Kenneth and Burton Deehring.
Russ will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, the fishing trips to Mazatlan that he took with his friends for over 20 years, and his association with the Al Kaly Mule Train.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel. Private entombment will be at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, Gate of Heaven.
