Ruth B. Powell
Ruth Lorene Bailey Powell (91 years), passed away on Sunday, June 19th, 2016 at the home of her daughter, Beth. She was a resident of Colorado Springs for 50 years and was formerly a resident of Ft. Smith, Arkansas. She was a homemaker and grandma.
Ruth was born on September 29, 1924 to James Kiser Bailey and Mabel Clela (Achey) Bailey in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. On February 6th, 1947 she married Walter A. Powell in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
Anyone who met Ruth, knew that her love of Jesus was primary in her life! She now lives with the Savior she loved to share with everyone. Next to her love of Jesus, was her love for her family, most especially her grandchildren. She never hesitated to tell everyone, even strangers, about their need for Jesus and, then, about her wonderful grandchildren! Though Ruth only finished 8th grade (being a child of the Depression), she NEVER stopped her love of learning ~ she quoted Michaelangelo often, “I am learning still…..”. She was interested in so many different subjects, but the Bible (and verse memorization) was her favorite. Her sense of humor made us laugh ~ always!
She is survived by her four children: David A. Powell, Rebecca R. D’Angelo (Michael), Steven K. Powell (Pam) and Elizabeth A. Morin (Tom); her six grandchildren: Jason (Sarah) and Andrew Powell, Joshua (Merissa) and Julia (fiancé, Jacob Best) Morin, Bron (Kate) and Brandon D’Angelo; her seven great-grandchildren: Riley, Madison and Levi Powell, Hayden, Joey, Charlotte and Cormac D’Angelo; numerous nieces and nephews, and many wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter in 1992. Also her parents and loving step-mom, and ten siblings.
A celebration memorial will be held on Friday, July 8th, 2016 at 1:00, at First Presbyterian Church, 219 E. Bijou St., Colorado Springs. A reception will be held immediately following the memorial at First Presbyterian.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ruth’s name may be made to: First Presbyterian Church (219 E. Bijou St., Colorado Springs, CO 80903) and Evangelical Christian Academy (4052 Nonchalant Cir. S., Colorado Springs, CO 80917).
We will miss her every day until we see her again……
